Questions from boat and yacht owners
What is an agreed value policy?
The boat's value is agreed when the policy is written, and a total loss is usually settled on that amount rather than on a depreciated value.
Do I need a hurricane plan?
Many marine policies written in Florida ask for one: where the boat goes and who moves it when a storm is named.
Can I take the boat to the Bahamas or the Caribbean?
Only if the policy's navigation area includes them; that area is written into each policy.
Does a personal policy cover charters?
Usually not: chartering is commercial use, and it generally needs a policy written for it, and crew usually needs its own coverage.
